Akbar Mashti and Kulfi pops @ Urban Pops

Yesterday, we got a hot tip about a restaurant waaaaaaaaaay out in the Burbs.  So Mr. Foodie and I were able convince our friend Michelle of Eugene’s Hot Chicken and Miss Dots post fame to come along (OK, it didn’t take much convincing).  As often happens in this world of anonymous food blogging, the restaurant was just ok, in our opinions.  Don’t ask me what it was…. and you’ll never guess it…. we only blog positively so we just consider meals like that sunk costs.  It was still a lot of fun. As we were heading past the Galleria on the way...

Bamboo has nigiri and sashimi!

IMG_6122-0.jpg

Folks, yet another reason to eat at Bamboo on Second: they’ve expanded their sushi menu to include nigiri and sashimi. We just happened to eat there tonite, the first night they offered it. We ordered the salmon, yellowtail, and tuna:       All three were outstanding. Melt-in-your-mouth, slightly citrusy from the lemon keeping it company, like butter. We also found out they’re open on Valentine’s Day-that’s where Mr Foodie and I will be, enjoying some nigiri!

After our Miss Dots post last weekend, we received a hot tip from loyal blog fan Rene about a place called Eugene’s Hot Chicken.  From some googling, I found out a few essential pieces of info: -Hot chicken originated in Nashville and is basically a regional take on buffalo chicken.  Serious Eats and Wikipedia do a better job than I ever could explaining the dish’s origins and distinction from buffalo chicken.  Basically, it’s deep fried chicken smothered in a hot paste atop white bread topped with pickle chips.  What more do you really need to know? -Eugene’s was part of Rev Birmingham’s Big Pitch contest...

The Pizitz Food Hall: the dawn of Birmingham’s new foodie age

unnamed

Foodies of Birmingham, we are beyond excited that we can now spill the beans about what has up to this point been a top secret collaboration between Bayer Properties and What to Eat in Birmingham:  the Pizitz Food Hall. If you read our blog, you know how excited we are about Birmingham’s food scene.   Of course, we like the standard southern barbecue and shrimp and grits that Bham is famous for as much as the next guy and gal.  But when Bham got its first and then second good Thai restaurant, only dim sum place, first old fashioned doughnuts,...

Miss Dots

As you’ve probably figured out, we recently hit a little bit of a dry spell foodie-wise.  It’s been almost a month since our last restaurant post, and it’s not for lack of trying – we just hadn’t eaten anywhere blogtacular. We were at a get-together last week and were complaining about this serious first-world problem.  And of course, even folks we had just met were doing their best to help us – this is a roll-up-your-sleeves-and-pitch-in kind of town.   After naming several places (blogged about that one, don’t care for that one), one woman piped up:  “Well, have you...
